Nilwala River

Our Story

Born from a lifelong love for the Nilwala ecosystem, Cheeky Crocodile started as a small family passion project. We wanted to share the beauty of our backyard—the winding mangroves and silent rivers—with the world.

What began with a single boat has grown into Matara's premier river safari experience. Our local guides know every hidden bend of the river, ensuring you get the best views of our namesake crocodiles while respecting the natural habitat.

Our Mission

Conservation

We are guardians of the river. A portion of every ticket goes towards mangrove replanting and river cleanup projects.

Community

We employ 100% local staff, supporting families in Matara and ensuring our success is shared with the village.

Education

We don't just show you animals; we teach you about them. Awareness is the first step towards protection.

The Nilwala River

The Nilwala Ganga is a lifeline for Southern Sri Lanka. Stretching 72km, it winds through rainforests and villages before meeting the Indian Ocean at Matara.

It hosts a rich biodiversity: from the famous saltwater crocodiles to over 40 species of fish and countless birds. Exploring it is like stepping back in time.
